One of the first Newton applications we wrote was a little thing called PTE - it was a periodic table of the elements which featured a bunch of buttons... If you tapped on the "H" button, for example, you got some information about Hydrogen. Not very pretty, but it worked. The biggest problem is that you couldn't search the application using the Newton "Find" button, so you basically had to tap on certain buttons to find out what the heck a certain symbol meant.
With the advent of the Newton Digital BookMaker software, we put together a sample Periodic Table in Newton Digital Book format. This allows you to search the book for certain chemical elements. Data included in the PTE "Lite" package includes Atomic Number, Atomic Weight, Symbol, Name, Electron Configuration, and Oxidation States.
This is also much FASTER than the original application, and you can use the standard overview button to bring up a scrolling list of the elements. Tap on one of 'em, and you're there!
This is Shareware - we're still trying to offset the cost of our development equipment. If you use this on a regular basis, send us a check or money order in the amount of $5 to: SanSoft, 892 E. Quail Pl., Highlands Ranch, CO 80126-2137 USA.
Note that a much more robust version of this Book is available as part of The Chemistry Set, an electronic chemical and hazardous material reference available from SanSoft. Information on The Chemistry Set is included in the latter pages of the Book, and is also included in the press release document.
